Greeting from the Hospital Director

Hospital Director

While transitioning from being the Health Bureau Funairi Hospital to the Social Affairs Bureau Funairi Hospital, followed by the Hospital Affairs Hiroshima City Funairi Hospital, the Hiroshima City Funairi Hospital has become well-known among Hiroshima residents for internal medicine care at all times as well as nighttime pediatrics and other medical treatment provided during holidays. However, recent changes in the healthcare environment have resulted in nighttime internal medicine care and examinations on holidays being transferred to the Hiroshima City Hospital, bringing a change to the conditions of our hospital and the necessity for new strategies and responses in order to survive as a hospital.

While internal medicine is the backbone of a hospital's business, in December 2006, the nighttime internal medical care of adults and holiday examinations, which had been carried out at this hospital for many years, was discontinued and we began to concentrate our efforts on outpatient examinations during weekday afternoons. However, we are providing examinations on weekdays from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM for workers, students and others who find it difficult to come to the hospital during the normal consultation hours.Additionally, we have assembled an excellent staff in areas of respiratory, digestive and circulatory organs as well as blood analysis together with a policy of offering an even greater level of attention to our outpatient and inpatient care.

We have also gathered an excellent staff in the area of pediatrics that allows the hospital to function as a base for emergency pediatrics care, and we not only continue to provide nighttime and holiday care in pediatrics but we have further enhanced these functions.Additionally, I would like the hospital to develop into a facility that can provide comprehensive medical care for children by not only providing emergency care but by utilizing the merits of pediatric psychosomatic medicine.

In regards to surgery, the focus of the adult surgery department at this hospital is on digestive organ specialist surgeons with the corresponding emphasis on care for acute abdominal condition, short-term hernia treatment and similar, and we are striving in the area of surgery for malignant tumors located in the stomach, colon, liver/gull bladder and pancreas. In pediatrics, we are focusing acute abdominal condition and groin hernias, as well as surgery for respiratory and urinary organs.

Currently, as all urban and suburban hospitals continue to be segregated, the health care provided by Funairi Hospital will be reviewed with reference to what we have achieved in the past while seeking to meet the expectations of city residents and other medical facilities. We would greatly appreciate your further guidance and encouragement as we move forward together.

Dec. 2008
